I WISH SOMEONE TOLD ME

I wish someone told me
I could be strong,
I’d have changed my life sooner
Not got it all wrong.

I wish someone told me
To cherish each day,
I’d have lived for each moment
Not wished life away.

I wish someone told me
The joy wouldn’t last,
Could I have stopped the clock?
And stayed in the past?

But if someone had told me
What would I do?
I’d still be here now
And still be missing you.

I LIGHT A CANDLE

I light a candle and whisper your name,
There’s life in that tiny flickering flame.
I see light in the darkness, feel warmth in the chill,
And hope that somehow you’re with me still.

As the room is filled with its chocolatey scent
I remember my promise before you went,
Chocolate for ever, just wait and see,
Your new kidney working and diet-free.

But those promises made can never come true,
There’s nothing more I can do for you.
So night after night it’s always the same,
I light a candle and whisper your name.
